This was the site of the 1968 Mexico City student massacre that ended in the deaths of about 1,000 people. This building, built in the Brutalist style, was first used by protest speakers on the 4th floor and by snipers shooting later from the roof.
The majority of families in the building gave protective shelter to the protesters since the place was quickly surrounded by military and special troops with tanks and heavy military equipment.
All apartments were systematically searched and doors forcefully opened to remove the protesters - including teachers, professors and young children - of which many whom were never seen again.
