Alfred Jarry (8 September 1873 – 1 November 1907) has been an obsession of mine for many years. (www.Iwannabealfredjarry.me). He was not only an amazing writer, avant guard figure, inventer and pataphysician but he also was a fabulous bicyclist. On top of that in 1903 he developed PERPETUAL MOTION FOOD, a powerful performance enhancing drugs while biking and during sexual activities. A compagnion of him, Toulouse Lautrec depicted one of their contemporary world champions know not only for his spectacular accomplishments (see Armstrong) but also for his extensive use of Perpetual Motion Food.
In this film, I depicted myself showing off my 1890 old ClEVELAND - a historic bicycle with wooden rims in a non-strored state I acquired from an antique auction house - and an authentic print by Toulouse Lautrec made for a bicylce chain ad featuring a former word champion with his trainer (both accused of active doping).
The film was shot in New York City, on 125th street in Harlem below a historic subway bridge created also around that turn of that century. The film is about modernist beauty, about biking, about Alfred Jarry, Touloue Lautrec and his doping champion with doping administering trainer and art.
