These kanji grids are based on actual study material i have used to learn kanji, Chinese characters as used in Japanese. The grid is ment to bill inl an learn to write. Each kanji has a number and is part of a larger system. words consist mostly of a combination of kanjis, hence the study manual gives other words where the particular Chinese character in question is used in combination. I was often perplexed by the combinations and the accumulation of meaning, and their unexpected meanings. For this work I selected 20 out of a book of over 2000 most common characterss / kanjis.

The grids themselves made me think of classical conceptual works and I fell lin love with them right away. By eliminating everything Japanese and just leaving the English translation, the number system and the learning grid, i had the impression of touching the absract geometry of learning.
