BASIC LITHUANIAN

In order to try to understand some aspects of the Lithuanian newspapers I decided to also study a couple of days in Vilnius. Language learning is part of my art practice (see: A taste for studies) thought usually, I spent many years on a language. Below, see also a particular illustration from my study book below.

This image below is taken from the study book we were using. The sentence reads: This man hereis Lithuanian, that man there is African.

These images are part of a tradition that help to shape the image of African for school children, feeding them with dehumanizing stereotypes of some "savages" with primitive weapon on the hand, standing isolated below some palm tree reaching out the hand for help.
