ps: if you wonder what my obsession with Karl Marx stand for... I would like to only point out that it was supposed to represent freedom from oppressoin, social justice and hope in general for a more equal and more just world... needless to say, in many cases the promise was utterly disappointed and betryed and the result ended in the same or worse... when Marxism could be forced into Communism and Stalinism. the resutls were equaliy desastrous than those of totalitarian regimes on the right.. the opposite spectrum of social engeneering. but nontheless. the need for justice, for freedom from unrightful oppression and exploitation never dies out and needs to be uphold. .hence marx needs to be read and studied and uphold and we should never stop trying to change the world, to make it better, to keep the power for change and justice up... so keep it up.. la lucha continua... !
Karl Marx Wears Prada My first piece of clothing I produced for an exhibition at the Lichtenstein Museum of Fine Arts in 2012. They were just made for the presentation of my Karl Marx jewelry collection which I originally called Karl Marx dressing UP but has been re-named since as Karl Marx wears Prada. The main part of these first works consisted of safety jackets and skirts that could be used as banners to communicate and protect. Safety jackets are part of my daily protective wardrobe as a bicyclist but I also like their florescent color, the reflective stripes and the working class look. People usually talk down to me in this outfit. These quintessential working class outfits also worn by the authorities can have quite a confusing effect on people when worn off the street and working places. Adding CLASS STRUGGLE, SURPLUS VALUE, KARL MARX and hammer, sickle, a fist and so on renders them even more unusual. The safty jacket logic I transferred onto skirts using reflective, black and white Velcro materials and reworked them as skirts, tops or flags. In Lichtenstein, these simple prêt-a-porter outfits were presented on stage with theatrical features. At my White Columns exhibition in New York City I presented them as flags.
